History / 歴史
- Launch (1953): Began experimental broadcasts on August 28, 1953 under callsign JOAX-TV; commercial service formally launched in 1959 as Nippon TV.
- Growth & Color Era (1960s–1970s): Expanded network affiliates nationwide; introduced color broadcasting in 1960 and full‐color programming by the late 1960s.
- Satellite & Digital Transition (1980s–2000s): Launched BS Nippon Television in 1989; began digital terrestrial test transmissions in the late 1990s and completed analog shutdown on July 24, 2011 (callsign JOAX-DTV).
- HD & Multi‐Platform (2000s–Present): Started HD broadcasts in 2003; rolled out on‐demand streaming service “Hulu Japan by Nippon TV”; introduced interactive data broadcasts and mobile apps for news and drama catch-up.
